Migrant Women's Support & Accommodation Service Inc. (MWSAS) provides confidential crisis and support service responses in a culturally appropriate manner and safe emergency accommodation. - Refer to the Resources page of this site for a detailed explanation of the services provided, in a variety of languages.
MWSAS employs bilingual, bicultural welfare workers speaking a variety of languages, qualified in the human services field. MWSAS' service delivery staff cover up to 10-12 diverse languages and professional interpreters are engaged at no cost to clients, to assist with languages not covered. Their aim is to provide support in a safe, non-institutional and culturally sensitive environment, where migrant women are encouraged to make their own decisions.
ACCOMMODATION
MWSAS has 12 Transition Houses offering short-term crisis accommodation for migrant women and children who are homeless due to domestic violence in their homes. This accommodation provides clients with a safe and secure environment to have some time, i.e. up to 3 months, usually needed to find suitable medium to long-term housing. Bond and Rent charges apply for a stay in Transition Houses with the cost of rental being subject to Centrelink's Rent Assistance.
